Robert Schaefer, CFA
Bob became fascinated with investing as a child when he would accompany his mother to the local bank just to see the teller stamp his passbook savings account with the interest he had earned since his last visit. While today’s digital world has largely made passbook savings accounts a relic of the past, those early lessons about saving and making your money work for you never faded.
Bob brings a wealth of senior-level investment experience to Fi3. For 27 years he worked for one of the largest independent wealth advisors in the country, where he was both a partner and the firm’s long-time Director of Investment Research. While there, he was involved in all aspects of creating and maintaining a sophisticated investment platform that catered to an ultra-high net worth clientele. His extensive experience includes asset allocation, manager selection, portfolio construction, and client education.
Investing in private markets has long been an area of specialization for Bob, having sourced dozens of such opportunities over his career. Examples include various types of hedge funds, private equity (including co-investments), real estate, and natural resource investments.
Bob has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, generally regarded as the premier designation for investment professionals, and is the former Certified Financial Planner certificate. He has a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Indiana State University.
Bob is a member of the CFA Institute and formerly served in various officer positions, including President, for the CFA Society of Indianapolis. He and his wife, Lori, live in Carmel and have two children together. He and Lori enjoy hiking, biking, and playing their new favorite sport - pickleball.
